Aloha and welcome to the website of the Kanu o ka 'Äina Learning ÿOhana, a family of highly successful programs impacting thousands of native learners throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Founded in 2000, the mission of the Kanu o ka 'Äina Learning ‘Ohana is to grow womb-to-tomb models of education that advance Hawaiian culture for a sustainable Hawai’i.

Current programs range from Kanu o ka 'Äina New Century Public Charter School, Hawai'i’s first native-designed and controlled K-12 public school, to Nä Lei Na'auao, a multi-island Hawaiian Charter School Alliance, serving 2000 Hawaiian students on three islands. Other programs include Mälamapöki'i, an early childhood education program, as well as Hälau Wänana, Native Hawaiian Center for Higher Learning, which includes Hawai'i’s first state approved alternative teacher licensing program. To provide a permanent home for these programs, the Kanu o ka 'Äina Learning 'Ohana is creating Kauhale 'Öiwi o Pu'ukapu, a comprehensive, Hawaiian-focused community learning center located on fifteen acres of Department of Hawaiian Homes Lands in Waimea on Hawai'i Island. This intergenerational learning ÿOhana has the potential of becoming a model for Hawaiian rural empowerment throughout the archipelago.
